Five counties in South Carolina, through which the Salkehatchie River flows, joined together to produce this project.

Someone draw the water, Water
Cool and calm black water, Water
Someone draw the water, Cool and calm, black water
From the banks of the Salkehatchie River

Someone bring the water, Water
Ancient, blessed water, Water
Someone bring the water, Ancient, blessed water
From the banks of the Salkehatchie River

River of life, River of dreams
Carry me back to a place I’ve never seen
Help me remember those moments so tender
Near the banks of the Salkehatchie River

Someone pour the water, Water
Storytelling water, Water
And we will make ourselves some stew
That’s just what we’re gonna do

First you add some stories, one or two
Some from me and some from you
Throw ‘em in a big ol’ pot
Tell me now just what you got

Salkehatchie Stew, Salkehatchie Stew
Little bit of me and a little bit of you
Oh, We’ll pour in the water, Cool and calm, black water
And we’ll make ourselves some Salkehatchie Stew

We’ll bring it to a low country boil
Add some spice of life,  half a cup or so
Stir it ’round and ’round ’til the stories blend
Serve it up to your family and your friends

Salkehatchie Stew, Salkehatchie Stew
Little bit of me and a little bit of you
Oh, We’ll pour in the water, Cool and calm, black water
And we’ll make ourselves some Salkehatchie Stew
